Nanakyu (Orange Belt)

1. Kimono Grab. Set I (AB1-2). Two hand grab from the front.
A.) Arms straight. Pin hands with left, step back with left to fighting stance, strike up with right palm heel above his left elbow (Tw-10); circle counter clockwise around and over his arms, 45° strike with right forearm to his left radial nerve, elbow drops allowing forearm to strike and sweep aside both arms; continue motion to stomach; left hand to guard, right 45° knife hand to throat; right hand sweeps counter clockwise clearing the center, shuffle forward, catch head with left, right arm motion continues to right side elbow to left side of head; left hand to guard, pivot right leg to dropping stance, right hammer fist to groin, right side kick to knee, guards up.
B1.) Arms don’t release. Start as ‘A’; arms bend at strike; left four finger eye shot, right back knuckle to Tw-17; hands come up to guards, right side kick to knee; plant forward.
B2.) Start as ‘B1’; lean forward, circle clockwise and catch his head with the left, circle counter clockwise, right side elbow to the left side of his head; lean backwards, right downward scoop parry his elbows to the right, pivot right leg to dropping stance; right side kick to knee.

2. Restraining Hold. (ABCDE). Lockups. (working on his left side described).
A.) Starting position: Kneeling on right knee, left knee up, his left arm is on the inside of our right arm, he is face down on the ground. Catch his left hand with the left, palm against the back of his hand, thumb on the styloid process of his ulna, fingers gripping his thumb, place the right forearm on the distal anterior portion of his humerus; fold his arm 90° on top of his back, right hand on his left shoulder, left forearm in the crook of right arm, left arm is bent 90°, left hand maintains grip on his left hand, left elbow on top of his bent elbow; right arm is bent 90°, forearm under his bent left arm, on his back; to cause pain: straighten the right arm, elevating his bent arm; to dislocate: continue elevating his arm.
B.) Switch hands. Start as ‘A’; from the lock: reposition left leg to behind his left elbow; pull his left arm, elbow to medial left shin; and pin, left elbow, (anterior to the shin) on top of his, left hand applying pressure to the pin; maintaining the pin, elevate his left hand enough to extricate right arm from the lock; replace left hand with the right hand, thumb proximal to the posterior medial metacarpal heads (back of the hand on the last two bones near the knuckles); slide left arm, on top of his elbow pressing down at all times, to back of his elbow, grab the elbow with left hand; at the same time: release pressure on his arm by lowering his left hand slightly, swing his left arm counter clockwise, elbow as close to spine as possible; then rotate his left hand to right scapula – or - as far as possible, to complete the pin.
C.) Vertical. Start as ‘A’; place right pectoral over and on left hand; press downwards to force his left shoulder to the ground; place right radius against his left elbow, pull back against elbow to restrain or break; for additional leverage place left elbow against right fist and press in to chest.
D.) Maintain grip on his left arm as he goes to ground; quickly step along side of him and kneel with the right knee on the ground beside his head, shin resting on his shoulder joint; lean weight onto right shin, pull up on his left arm.
E.) Start as ‘C’ except; slide left foot under his left shoulder, arm in air; twist his left arm counter clockwise while pressing downwards; bend left knee to apply pressure on his left elbow with the shin.

3. Dragon Returns. (AB). Left hand chest grab.
A.) Pin his left hand with left, step back with left, pivot to fighting stance, right vertical forearm to left elbow (Tw-10), break; circle right arm counter clockwise rotating his broken elbow, continue motion to right side elbow to left side of his head, left palm to right side head.
B.) Pin his left hand with left, step left with left, pivot to bow, right vertical forearm to left elbow; step back right then left, slide right hand to his left wrist. left hand to guard, pull his left hand in towards – or - past right hip with right, right side kick to left side of body or knee.

4. Three Tongues of Fire. (ABC1-2). Push, punch, or grab.
A.) Left foot forward. Hop forward 45˚ left with left to crane, parry with left, right in guard, right front snap kick to left knee, right 45˚ kick to groin, right side kick to right knee.
B.) Left foot forward. Hop forward 45˚ left with left, hands in guard position, right roundhouse kick to groin or body; right foot moves forward, right side kick to right knee, forcing him down; plant to dropping stance; right rear kick to spine.
C1.) Right foot forward. Start as ‘A’; right front snap kick to right ribs, right side kick to right knee; plant to dropping stance; right rear kick to spine.
C2.) Right foot forward. Same as ‘C1’ except; front snap kick to right armpit or arm, side kick to right knee, back kick to spine.

5. The Art of War. Set II. (A1-4,BCDE). Right push, punch, or grab.
A1.) Step forward with right; same time: pivot to fighting stance, left brushing or outward reverse knife hand blocking strike to his right forearm, right knife hand strike to right side of his neck; pivot forward to neutral bow, left punch to face, right hand to guard; shuffle forward (push-drag), right punch to face.
A2.) Same as ‘A1’ except; punch to head (main response).
A3.) Start as ‘A1’ except; tiger claw to chin and eyes; then; pivot forward to neutral bow, left uppercut to solar plexus or right ribs, right hand to guard; left crane hook the back of his neck; shift 180° to reverse neutral bow; left pulls head down to our left side, right side elbow to left side head.
A4.) Start as ‘A1’ except; right side elbow to head; shift forward to neutral bow, right back knuckle to his head, left tiger claw to face; shuffle forward, right shoulder punch to jaw.
B.) Start as ‘A1’ except; uppercut to body; finish like ‘A3’.
C.) Start as ‘A1’ except; reverse knife hand to groin; pivot forward to bow, left knife hand to right side of neck; finish like ‘A3’.
D.) Start as ‘A1’ except; tiger claw grab to groin; pivot forward to bow, left punch to face, right pull out groin; pivot to fighting stance; right palm to chin, left hand to guard.
E.) Start as ‘A1’ except; back hand slap to groin; pivot forward to bow, left side elbow to right side head; pivot to fighting stance; left back knuckle or knife hand to left side of his neck, right tiger mouth to throat.

6. Inward Defense. (ABCD). Left or right push, punch, or grab.
A.) Step forward with right, pivot to fighting stance, right inward brushing parry, left outward brushing parry, knife hand strike to right side of his neck; pivot forward to neutral bow, left punch to face, right hand to guard; shuffle forward (push-drag), right punch to face.
B.) Same as ‘A’ except; right punch to right side of head (main response).
C.) Start as ‘A’ except; right tiger claw to face; pivot forward to neutral bow, left punch to face, right hand guard; shift 180˚ to reverse neutral bow, right hook to head.
D.) Start as ‘A’ except; right finger slice to eyes (palm down); finish like ‘C’.

7. Outward Defense. (ABCD). Right push, backhand, or grab.
A.) Step forward with left, right foot to cat; left inward brushing parry, right outward parry, left inward parry and pin his arm to side, right punch to face; maintain pin with left, slide right hand down and catch his right wrist cross back left with right; pivot 180° to bow, break his elbow.
B.) Same as ‘A’ except; right tiger claw to face.
C.) Same as ‘A’ except; right tiger fist to neck (St-9).
D.) Same as ‘A’ except; right tiger mouth to throat.

8. Head Lock. Set II. (ABC).
A.) Twist head towards body, step forward with right to fighting stance, double hammer fist: right to groin, left to kidney; circle left hand up and over head, one finger supported to philtrum; pull head back and across left leg, right hammer fist to heart.
B.) Strong grip. Twist head towards body, crescent step back 45° with left behind his feet; circle both arms clockwise left tiger claw in front of his face and right wrist hook behind right knee,
reverse; hitting nose and back of knee; rotate him parallel to ground; kneel with right, slide right claw to groin, throw him on left knee, bending forward (head below knee level); break his back; rip face with left, groin with right; with both arms straight push him forward off knee, stand up and bring left foot back.
C.) Avoid. Rotate head: down and left, chin on chest; step back with left to natural stance; duck under his right arm; right four fingertip strike to groin, left hand on his right hip; slide right hand down to right ankle, left hand inside right knee; pull up with right, push down with left so he falls, pull up on right foot, right heel stomp to groin.

9. Locking the Arm. Set II. (ABCD). Right arm bar lock.
A.) Elbow (can’t go forward). Step back 45° right with left, left palm heel grab groin, left elbow straight up to chin; complete as in “Set I ”.
B.) Cranks it up. Step forward 45° right with left, twist left hand free; bend forward and straighten right arm; pivot to fighting horse, counter grab his right wrist, pull his right arm in, reverse, pivot 180° to half bow; push his hand to his right shoulder, nikyo, step forward if need be, and drop him.
C.) Reverse grip. Step back 45° left with right - or - forward 45° right with left; pivot to bow, right hammer fist to groin, left punch to face or thumb to eye.
D.) Left hand grab. Start as in ‘A’, counter grab left wrist with right; pivot to fighting stance, left rear elbow to his left elbow, left hammer fist to groin.

10. Bearhug (Free in back). (A1-2,BC).
A1.) Right hand on top. Right reverse hammer fist, left reverse hammer fist to back of right hand; slip right-left hand, palms up, under his right hand (thumbs on first two knuckles); step forward 45° right with left, cross back in advance with right, pivot to fighting stance; twist right hand to Ikkyo, apply pressure, bend him forward, right Thai kick to face.
A2.) Ikkyo doesn’t work. Pull right hand past right hip, right front snap kick to knee; plant forward with right, pivot to fighting stance, left hand on top of his right arm, right stiff arm back knuckle to face; circle right arm 360° counter clockwise, drop into low horse, dropping elbow to spine.
B.) Fingers interlaced. Pry right finger free, pull back on right finger until grip unlocks; pull right hand to right side, pull left hand to left side; throw left hand down, reach over with left and grab right palm; step forward 45Ί right with left, cross back with right; pivot, (allow his right arm to slide under left elbow), corkscrew down, left forearm over his right forearm, maintain right grip on his right hand finger, kneel with left.
C.) Intercept. Double outward parry against his palms; as they come together, cross grab his right fingers with left, left fingers with right; squeeze fingers together and twist so they point down, thumbs on back of his hands apply pressure so he rises to the balls of his feet; throw his left hand down with right; return right knife hand to our left inside forearm, step forward 45Ί right with left, allow right arm to slide under our left elbow, maintain arm positions, rotate his arm to “Kenpo lock”, cross back with right, pivot, elbows tight to side, kneel with left.

11. Encircling Arms. Set I. (ABCD). Headlong tackle.
A.) Step back with left, raise right arm overhead, left palm heel to top of his head; guide in with left, pivot to fighting stance, right hammer fist to back of neck.
B.) Step back with left, grab jaw with right, top of head with left; pivot to fighting stance, twist head reversing grips; if tries to counter: stop twist and hold still.
C.) Head up. Step back with left, grab right side of head with left; pivot to fighting stance, right side elbow left side head.
D.) Penetrates. Step back with left, left hand on head, lift right arm over head; pivot and drop to low fighting stance, right dropping elbow to spine; lift up, drop and pivot to dropping stance, right hammer fist to kidney.

12. The Art of War. Set III. (A1-5,B1-2,CD1-2). Left push, punch, grab, or shoulder grab.
A1.) Same time: right front snap kick to left leg, right brushing parry, left four finger eye shot; step forward with right, pivot to fighting stance, right knife hand to left side neck.
A2.) Same as ‘A1’ except; right brushing parry counter grab, left four finger eye shot; plant forward with right, pivot to fighting stance, right knife hand thrust (palm up) to throat, left hand to guard.
A3.) Same as ‘A1’ except; left palm heel to chin; right punch cheek line.
A4.) Same as ‘A1’ except; left tiger fist to throat; right tiger claw face.
A5.) Same as ‘A1’ except; left punch to nose; right back knuckle twist to nose.
B1.) Step forward with left to fighting stance, right brushing parry, left uppercut to body; pivot forward to neutral bow stance, right uppercut to body; shift back to reverse neutral bow, left tiger’s mouth to throat, right to guard; shift (or step forward) to neutral bow, right shoulder punch to head.
B2.) Start as ‘B1’ except; left reverse knife hand, back hand slap, or tiger claw to groin.
C.) Right shoulder grab with left. Same as ‘A’ series except; brush right forearm down his inside left arm; bend his left wrist, pull him forward and off balance, right naihanchi kick.
D1.) Right shoulder grab with left and right punch. Same as ‘C’ except; blocking strike right arm with left knife hand or palm heel.
D2.) Right shoulder grab with left and right punch. Step forward with left to fighting stance, left palm heel to jaw, right as in ‘C’; shift forward to bow, right tiger fist to throat, left hand to guard.

13. Chinese Sword. (A1-2,B). Left push.
A1.) Step back with left; pivot to fighting stance, right inward twisting strike, left outward parry counter grab his left wrist; pull his left arm down, right back knuckle to Tw-17.
A2.) Closer. Same as ‘A1’ except; step forward with right; right side elbow to face.
B.) Same as ‘A1’ or ‘A2’ except; back knuckle to left floating ribs; right vertical forearm to elbow, pivot to bow (bending him over); shift to naihanchi, circle right elbow 360° counter clockwise; shift to bow, pull with left, right dropping elbow to spine.

14. One Armed Boxer. Set II. (ABCDE). Parry arm disabled or engaged.
A.) Right punch. Step forward with right to fighting stance, right inward brushing parry; right knife hand strike to right side of his neck. (punch, tiger claw, finger slice).
B.) Left punch. Step forward with right to fighting stance, right outward brushing parry; right knife hand strike to left side of his neck. (punch, tiger claw, four knuckle rake).
C.) Left punch. Right crane hook, continue motion; step forward with right to fighting stance, right four knuckle rake to nose, continue motion, right hammer fist to groin.
D.) Left-right punch. Step back with left, right crane hook his left punch; right palm heel right arm; right front snap kick groin, plant forward to fighting stance, right tiger claw eyes.
E.) Right front snap kick, right punch. Step back with left to fighting stance, right downward blocking strike; right upward blocking strike his right punch; shuffle forward right side elbow right ribs, right back knuckle to right temple, sweeping his right arm 45Ί downward, right reverse knife hand to left side neck.

15. Bearhug (Pinned in front). (A1-2,B).
A1.) Hands in front. Step back with right to ball of foot; thrust hips back, double thumbs to groin; right rising knee to groin, lift elbows up; step forward 45° right with right to outside of his left foot, circle right forearm counter clockwise outside his left arm, place right inside forearm against left upper arm point; left hand grasps our right hand, pull in tight against his left arm; cross back in advance with left, pivot, bring right elbow up, corkscrew down to right kneeling, pull right fist to ground with left; adjust to pin.
A2.) Hands in back. Head butt; bite, spit; finish like ‘A1’ or ‘B’.
B.) Intercept. Step forward 45° left with left, catch right wrist with right, twist his arm, place right wrist, thumb down, on left side of our neck; cross back in advance with right, circle left arm over his right outside elbow, pivot, kneel with left; left arm continues to ground for takedown.
