Seisan

 These illustrations are not for those who wish to learn the kata described, but rather for those who have already learned the kata from a certified instructor and wish to be assisted in remembering them. The photos and illustrations do not include minute details, as I feel kata should be learnt with an instructor.

Attention Stance.

Bow; step left to Natural stance, same time: chamber both fists and straighten hands 45° down (elbows pointing down, knuckles up).

Crescent step forwards with right to Seisan dachi, same time: right arm crosses under left circles over head and assumes an outward block position (shoulder high), left fist next to right elbow all the way (knuckles down); chamber left; kata punch with left; pull left fist back and rotate to assume to Moroto Uke position once more.

Crescent step forwards with left to Seisan dachi, same time: left arm crosses under right and circles over head and strikes forwards with the knuckles (shoulder high), right fist next to left elbow all the way (knuckles down); chamber right; kata punch with right; pull it back and rotate to assume to Moroto Uke position once more.

Crescent step forwards with right; same as 3.

From Moroto Uke, chamber both hands and double punch (left top, right bottom); double block (left downward block, right outward block); double block again.

Lift elbows up shoulder high, hands open (arms and hands straight, palms 45° up).

Arms straighten 40° downwards.

Right knee kick 45° to the left and plant forwards. At the same time fists chamber; pivot 180° to left Seisan dachi. As you pivot, the left opens (palm to the outside, fingers down) and moves down behind and against left thigh, right hand opens (palm up) and , moves up shoulder high; from here the right hand twists 45°, palm facing down.

Crescent step forwards with right to Seisan, same time: right hand moves down behind and against right thigh, left hand moves up (palm up) shoulder high; left palm twists facing down.

Crescent step forwards with left to Seisan, same time: left hand moves down behind and against right thigh, left moves up shoulder high; right palm twists facing down.

Step forward with right; pivot left 90° to Seisan, arms (left) inward circular, (right) outward block to Moroto Uke position;

Don't stop; lift left leg (knee aligned with stomach) and shuffle forward; right kata punch; left kata punch; right kata punch.

Step right with left; pivot 180° to Seisan, same time right arm outward blocks and left arm assumes the Moroto Uke position.

Don't stop; lift right leg (knee aligned with stomach) and shuffle forwards; left-right-left kata punch.

Pivot left 90° to Seisan, same time left outward block, right assumes the Moroto Uke position;

Cross over with right to a Twisted stance; left Yoko Geri to knee; plant forwards to Naihanchi with left downward block.

Step right with left and pivot 180° to Seisan, inward, outward block to the Moroto Uke position;

Cross over with left to Twisted stance; right Yoko Geri to knee; plant forwards to Naihanchi and right downward block.

Right Naihanchi kick to left palm (fingers down); right plants back to Naihanchi, same time: left palm rotates clockwise to downward parry.

Right reverse downward punch.

Cross back with right and pivot to Seisan, same time: left hand chambers.

Double punch (right top, left bottom);

Pull left foot to Cat stance; arms rotate clockwise and open as left inward parries, right spear strikes hip joint.

Step back with left to Natural stance, same time: fists clench and arms cross in front of body; arms straighten out forwards and 45° down (elbows pointing down, knuckles up).

Left leg steps to Attention stance, same time hands open and arms move to sides of body; bow.
